Andrea Melle (Eurecom) visiting Prof. Touradj Ebrahimi (EPFL)
29.04.2013 - 03.05.2013
Internal Visits

Andrea Melle from Eurecom made a research visit to EPFL. The goal of this visit was to advance the joint on-going research activity by starting the development of the objective privacy evaluation framework. The aim was to design and to implement a standalone objective privacy evaluation tool that is going to be dataset independent (in order to pre-process a dataset for it). This tool was used in MediaEval 2013 objective evaluations. For a first assessment of the developing prototype two main public datasets were identified ChokePoint and AT&T datasets. One detection and three recognition algorithms were implemented and run on these datasets, which were modified with different privacy protection tools. Preliminary results demonstrated that a combination of detection and recognition algorithms could be a good privacy metric for facial regions protected by privacy filters. As a result of this collaborative research work one paper was published at SPIE Applications of Digital Image Processing XXXVI conference.
This research exchange has contributed to WP2, WP5 and WP6 activities.
